one week in!

i love college so far.  after i…

  • found the right classes (sorry to the english 102 section 01 and the german class)
  • memorised the campus layout (the atc needs a sign! who’s with me?!)
  • got to know my roommates (all of which are cool, even if they are omnivores)
  • and found the local movie theater (i’ve been four times already)

…everything pretty much worked out fine.  my professors are all cool, homework isn’t too bad (yet), stuff is expensive, but hopefully i’ll be getting a job soon to offset that kind of thing.

well, i’m running on about four hours of sleep, so instead of writing alot, i’m just going to post some pictures haha

i hope america will do the right thing

i know, it’s been awhile since i posted.  sorry 😦  i’ve been crazy busy packing and getting everything ready for saturday.  this will be a short post, since i’m still not finished.  basically, it’s just a reminder for people to vote in november and change this country for the better.  normally, i don’t put a lot of politics on my blogs, but i think this is a worthy exception.

i’m reposting an excerpt of very important article everyone should read:

Q: Who said the solution to the housing crisis is for people facing foreclosure to get a “second job” and skip their vacations?

A: McCain. He should know, because he and his wife own nine houses. He must have a LOT of jobs.

Source: In a speech on the economy, John McCain said homeowners “are doing what is necessary–working a second job, skipping a vacation, and managing their budgets–to make their payments on time.”

now that is just ridiculous.  i don’t want this man in office.  and if you don’t want him there either, don’t just sit and badmouth him; VOTE and make sure he doesn’t get into the oval office.  because i truly believe he will be ten times as worse than bush.

–because there are always trolls, bush fanatics, and spammers, comments have been disabled for this post.  but just think about what you’ve read- THEN ACT ON IT.–

what’s going through my head right now

i’m remembering all the fun times i had with my friends, and already missing them.  especially x and jason-  you guys are the best.  i’ll be home holidays and eventually weekends when i finally buy a car.  we have sooo got to do SOMETHING before i leave.  call meee!

i’m wishing my grandma and uncle ron could see me off to school- but they can’t because i’ll never see them again.  i hope i make you both proud.  grandma, i’m getting along pretty well with my parents and i visit grandpa every week. he misses you and so do i.   uncle ron, i’m majoring in photography- i know you would’ve loved to see the pictures i took for you.  i hope i’m as great a photographer as you were.

i’m remembering everything my family has done for me, especially my mom, who is the greatest, and didn’t freak out (okay, not that much) when i changed everything over the past two years.  you make the best rice milk ice cream ever, lol. oh, and thanks for teaching me how to make tea.   my dad, who drives me pretty everywhere, all the while hinting i should get my own licence.  lol.  someday.   my brothers (all three) who were my partners in crime growing up (especially david, best friend and fellow treasure hunter). i’ll miss you guys.  i’ll especially miss kicking your butts in halo and age of empires, haha.  pwned!   my sisters, who were pretty tolerant of me when i was a kid, even when i used their barbies as drumsticks.  i sooo miss you guys.  texas and indiana are too far away, you know.    my extended family, you guys are too many to name, haha.  i’ll miss you too.   my co-volunteers in media- some of you i haven’t seen in years but you’re all fun and great to work with.  kent and nancy-  any and all computer problems are on you now,  haha!

i’m wishing i wasn’t such a jerk to that one special person. i still have issues with you but i was kinda harsh when things broke off.  if you’re reading this, i’m sorry.

i’m hoping i don’t sleep in on the first day of class- seriously.  i am going to set my alarm clock as loud as it will possibly go.  this may or may not do anything, depending on how much, um, stuff i’ve got in my system from the night before. i’m really, really hoping i can find a farmer’s market in portsmouth- i need blueberries to survive.  if anyone knows of any places with good produce, please let me know.

i’m thinking about stars- how there are so many that i can’t count them.  that feeling is comforting somehow; i like knowing that no one knows everything.

i’m staring across my room at my book collection and wondering what i should leave behind.  its not a happy thought.  i have quite a large collection ranging from star wars to tom clancy to cynthia voigt.  and i’m pretty sure they won’t all fit in our car.

i’m hoping my roommates are clean freaks like me.  i also hope the only rap music they like is jay-z or the occasional kanye west or eminem song.  i really hope we get along, guys.

i’m remembering my friend christian henderson, who’s gone forever.  it was not fair- not right that you’re not here.  you should be calling and telling me about your college, about your life.  i miss you every day.  you were a great guy and the best drummer our age..  rock on.

i’m hoping my professors don’t call on me.  ever.  really, guys- i’ll be doing good to have my eyes open; no i don’t want to give the class my point of view on the subject- whatever it is. haha.

i’m thinking, i need a haircut.  really.  i look like 2d from gorillaz.  and it doesn’t work for me.  i have to fix that.

i’m sad that a lot of things are coming to an end, but i’m excited that a lot of new things are about to begin.  i’m happy to have already made friends with some of my classmates on facebook- can’t wait to meet you guys in person.  ssu: 16  daysss, baby!!

okayyy…

so i finally get my roomate list.  oui, enfin!  and… i don’t know any of them.  at all.  i received a list with phone numbers and names.  so, you can just imagine:

roommate:  hello?

me:  hi, my name’s josh, i’m a freshman at shawnee.

roommate: okayyy…

me:  well, i’m calling because we’re going to be roommates, and-

roommate: wait, is this a prank?

so yeah. way to go, housing and residence life office.  an e-mail address would’ve been wayyy less awkward.  ah, well.  guess this is part of life now: social interaction.  man, i hope jedi mind tricks still work.

this morning, i’m making a list of shopping:  suddenly i remember that my dorm comes furnished with a fridge.  score!  save $60.  yesss!!  more money towards my slr.  now, i just need a tv and an xbox.  hey, maybe one of my roommates will have one.  and maybe they’ll call me first!  haha.

this pretty much made my day (or morning, considering the day’s not over yet):  someone favourited one of my photos on flickr (http://flickr.com/photos/speakwithoutmakingasound/2723444638/).  i was really flattered.  i’ve always liked that shot, and for someone i don’t even know to say they like it… je suis dans le ciel (i’m in heaven).  it’s the little things, i swear.

well, that’s the end of this post because i’m leaving in like ten minutes.  au revoir pour l’instant! (good-by for now!)

only 22 days + a housing assignment (at long last)

yay!

i finally found out what dorm i’ll be in! campus view (which are nice) but i’ll be tripled.  so now i’ve got to worry about getting along with three people instead of two.  ah, well.  three’s company.

okay, so the only things i have to do now are finalise my student loan, and make sure my shots are current.  <<fun, fun.  for those of you who don’t know me that well, i am deathly afraid of needles.  like, a lot.

oh yeah, in other news, i had the funeral for my digital camera yesterday 😦   i liked it, even when it was a little buggy at times.  $99 on sale, 6mp, it will be missed.  now i’ve got to buy a nikon d40.  ($400+).

ah.  well today i’m uploading more to flickr and switching to portsmouth’s cell towers.  the party never stops.

ssu: 24 daysss

^^ ssu for meeee

i can’t wait.  even if i end up tripled in campus view, i’m still excited.

my list of things to do after unpacking:

  • find the closest store that sells tofu
  • see if the local movie theaters show anything from this century
  • see what the computer labs are like
  • hook up my pda and computer to ssu’s network
  • avoid the phone ALL DAY because my entire family (yes even the ones in california and pennsylvania) will be calling me

in all seriousness, i really can’t wait.  orientation is on the 12th and it seems light-years awayyyyy.

because i’m going crazy counting the hours until i leave cincinnati, i’m going to switch topics.

today i found this on a gamer’s forum:

so effing funny

so effing funny

because i love halo and irreverent humour, i just had to post it.  lol  its just so funny, especially the last part of the tag line:  it’s payback time.

also, i’m glad to have moved on from the drama of the first post.  that wasn’t so bad.

in other news, i’m on facebook pretty much all the time.  if i’m not on my computer then i’m on my pda.  i need to look away from the screen every now and then because stuff starts to blur lol

first post

i always hate first posts; everyone expects something dramatic or profound or funny.  well, i’m drawing a blank on any of that, and i don’t want to leave the blog empty forever, so i’ll grin and bear it.  unless anyone can tell me a way to skip the first post and head right to the second.

i would like to post in french, but no one i know understands it.  so, with the occasional slip-up, this’ll be in english (sigh).

i don’t have a lot to say, really, so i’ll sign off now.  tomorrow i’ll post more stuff and maybe pictures.

i’m on facebook
